a metamorphosing ensemble, ANIMA is a place of queer friendship and sustaining story: a place where old texts and melodies are animated by spirit and voice

The performance was beyond just music, by incorporating … dramatic texts, it was gripping and intimate. I felt that we were at the meeting point of old and new, a contemporary approach to historically informed performance that is something I haven’t seen before.

— Janelle Lucyk (Director, Musique Royale), presenter, Navré de ton dart (a medieval transition story, inspired by the art of Gilles Binchois and Christine de Pizan)

For me this text — especially with these other elements brought in that are so intensely personal in English, really hits … as kind of a personal reflection on the meaning of loving someone.

— Chris Fischer (soloist), workshop participant, A Poor Passion (a 21st. c. queer retelling of Bach’s Johannes-Passion)
